Neighbourhood Centre, Towerlands Park

Although part of the wider redevelopment of the former Towerlands Park equestrian centre and golf course where we have also secured the approval of the reserved matters for 509 new homes, the neighbourhood centre is included in the site-wide design code but a separate planning permission was sought so that an extra 12 apartments can be added to the total set by the outline planning permission.  Two buildings were proposed, with 220m2 of retail use on the ground floor and apartments on the first and second floors of the northern building, while the southern building also contains six apartments across two floors but delivers a 220m2 community centre on the ground floor.  A plaza to the front creates an area for people to meet while the car parking is hidden to rear and split between unallocated spaces for the ground floor uses and a private car park for the residents of the buildings.  The appearance of the buildings was guided by the design code and reflects the appearance of the three storey townhouses on the opposite side of the main street, as well as adding extra detail to emphasise the non-residential elements, including the traditional frontage of the shop units which is also applied to the community centre.
